#1: CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst): Granted by the CFA Institute, the CFA certification is the most popular certification in Finance for those wishing to pursue a career primarily in Financial Research and reporting. Requiring at least 1.5 years of commitment to clear a 3-stage examination, it is highly advised that one be serious about it before enrolling.

Cost: ~$2100 (for early-bird registration)

#2: FRM (Financial Risk Manager): Almost as popular as CFA, the FRM certification from GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) is spread over 2 tests that can be taken either together or at an interval of 6 months. While CFA is more generic in nature, covering financial statement analysis, corporate finance, economics, wealth management, and derivatives, the FRM is more focused on risk and derivatives.

Note that it requires 2 years of experience in the risk domain to be eligible for the charter, but that can be done after the exam too, within the next 5 years.

#3: ERP (Energy Risk Professional): Another certification, in line with FRM, provided by GARP. This one, however, is tailored to people in the Energy Risk…
